The prestigious Super Six tournament of the Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) is set to take place in Asaba, hosted at the Stephen Keshi Stadium from May 5 to 12, 2023, as confirmed by the organizers.

In addition to the Stephen Keshi Stadium, the Admiralty University Sports Complex in Ibusa has been designated as the secondary venue for the tournament. Christopher Anazia, the Director General of Delta State Sports Commission, assured that all necessary arrangements for a successful event have been diligently put in place. He emphasized that the tournament holds significant weight as it will determine Nigeria’s representatives at the regional CAF Women Champions League.

The six participating teams have been identified as follows: Delta Queens (the host state’s team), Bayelsa Queens, and Rivers Angels from Group A, while Group B will feature FC Robo, Edo Queens, and Confluence Queens. Anazia highlighted that these six teams emerged as the top qualifiers from the two groups of the regular NWFL.

Anazia proudly stated, “We are fully prepared to host this championship. Delta State has a history of hosting high-profile football tournaments, and our state-of-the-art facilities, conducive environment, and the warm hospitality of our people consistently position Delta State as the preferred destination for football stakeholders and the broader sports community.”

It’s worth noting that in the previous edition of the Super Six, hosted by Edo State in 2022, Bayelsa Queens emerged as the victorious team. This upcoming event in Asaba promises to be a significant moment in the women’s football calendar, showcasing top-tier talent and contributing to the growth of women’s football in Nigeria.
